On December 14th, IKEA will open its 43rd store in the US. That store will open in Memphis, TN and we could not be more thrilled! We love IKEA. Not just because of the reasonable prices and the cool products they sell. We love IKEA because it gets our creative juices flowing and let’s face it, we’re suckers for the showrooms that we can only dare to recreate.
The BC, local bloggers, and tastemakers received invitations to tour the new IKEA Memphis store before it opens to the public. As you can imagine, we could not accept the offer fast enough! Let’s just say they had us at “hej.” That’s hello in Swedish. Thanks, Google! So let’s chat about the press tour, shall we?
IKEA started the afternoon by treating everyone to a smorgasbord of Swedish cuisine: Swedish meatballs, Julskinka (traditional Christmas ham), salmon, cucumber salad, fresh cheeses, bread, and mounds of desserts. It was delish! How will we be able to walk the store after this? We were determined and so we did…
We toured the facility in small groups with a member of IKEA management as a tour guide. Our guide was Carol, the local marketing manager. We secretly hoped to have her as a guide when we chatted over lunch with her. She led our group throughout the store, stopped to point out new IKEA collections, answered every question we had, and showed us some of her favorite products. We were able to browse and try out the products. It’s like a big playground for adults!
So here’s the details you guys need to know: The store will open on Wednesday, December 14th. The first 43 visitors will take home a free EKTORP sofa, the next 100 will receive a POÄNG armchair, and the first 2500 visitors will receive a mystery envelop that holds food vouchers or IKEA gift cards up to $250! On Thursday the first 43 visitors will receive a free HAUGESUND mattress! On Friday, December 16th the first 43 visitors will receive vouchers for a free meatball monthly meal for a family of four. There are more offers and giveaways happening during opening week so be sure get up and get out there!

You get a lot of loyalty benefits like monthly products discounts, free coffee or tea at every visit and parents receive an additional 30 minutes for their child in Småland. Småland is the childcare center to entertain the kiddos while parents shop, it’s so cute!
