The BC Goes to Rio!

Okay, so we’re not really in Rio, but our minds are! We don’t know about you, but we have been all about the Olympics this week!  We’ve been so obsessed, we pretty much feel like we’re in Rio sitting in the stands.  The texts between us have been hilarious as we watch the events.  We are SO proud of our USA teams!

The Gymnastics competitions have been giving us life, and we have been here for “The Final Five!” We have to start with Simone Biles, this girl is amazing to watch!  We were so glad to see her win the gold medal for All-Around, vault, and floor exercise.  Of course Aly Raisman came back this year on a mission, and will take home a silver medal on floor.  Gabby Douglas’ scores helped Team USA win the Gold for the Team event but we’d be careless not to mention she’s had a rough time in Rio. We’re pretty sure she would have been up on that podium receiving a medal for the All-around individual competition if not for the two-per-country rule. Insert eye roll here. The BC loves Gabby! We are proud of her accomplishments and we know she’ll continue to be a light of encouragement for little girls everywhere. Lastly, there is Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez!  Madison is a beast on the uneven bars! She won a silver medal easily and she deserved it. Laurie was amazing at…well everything! She sparkled on the balance beam and took home the silver medal with Simone taking bronze. These girls came to slay at their first Olympics!

Swimming has been one of our favorites too. We found ourselves screaming as Simone Manuel collected her medal, what a moment in history!!  Michael Phelps came through and snatched up his 23rd  gold medal, 28 medals to end his Olympic career!  Did anybody notice his adorable baby boy in the stands?!  Then there was Ryan Murphy, Maya DiRado, and Katie Ledecky, the relay teams, just gold medals everywhere!  Team USA is everything!

The USA soccer teams are always incredible to watch! Track and Field is mind blowing! Usain Bolt is not Team USA but he definitely has the entire world cheering for him. The beautiful Justin Gatlin gave Usain a good challenge at Worlds and again in Rio in the 100m but its Usain Bolt… Congrats on the well-deserved silver medal, Justin! We also learned about events we did not know existed. Steeplechase in track and field seemed like a new kind of torture.

Did we mention we’ve been obsessed since the games started? It’s been rough getting up for work each morning after the long hours of binge watching each night. The joy of having something positive to watch on TV, along with the unbelievable athleticism displayed! What’s not to love?! We have been getting inspired to exercise and be in our best shape! We almost did it too! Almost! Most of all we enjoy seeing so many people have their dreams come to fruition. Even if they did not medal in their perspective event, you can see the joy from each athlete as their hard work is shown on the biggest stage of all. By the end of Tuesday evening, August 16th, Team USA had 86 medals in Rio! “U-S-A! Slay all day!” Thanks for that chant, Leslie Jones!

So, do we have any friends out there that were fans of the MTV show “The Hills?!” Don’t judge us, but we used to love that show!  We can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since the show aired!  Time flies when you’re…adulting!  MTV aired an anniversary special called “The Hills: That Was Then, This is Now” on Tuesday night.  It was such a fun trip down memory lane with our girl, LC.  (That’s Lauren Conrad for those of you who may not have watched the show.)  The special was from Lauren’s perspective, and included clips that were never aired.  One of those deleted clips was of a young Kim Kardashian randomly talking to Heidi Montag about jellyfish!  We loved seeing how the scenes were edited and how the producers “encouraged” certain situations and fake relationships!  We’re looking at you, Brody Jenner.  There was a little nostalgia as they played some of the more infamous scenes.  Who could forget Lauren screaming at Heidi, “You KNOW what you did!”  Or Lisa Love saying, “Lauren will always be the girl who didn’t go to Paris” after Lauren chose to spend the summer with her boyfriend instead of going to work in Paris!!

We’ve always loved Lauren, she was our favorite on the show. She was the level-headed one, always spoke up for herself, and didn’t mind addressing any elephant in the room!  We lived vicariously through her as she “interned” at Teen Vogue, set up fancy dinner parties, and worked backstage at fashion shows. Speaking of her intern days…how hilarious to find out LC really thought she was interviewing and waiting to get news on the intern position?! She had no idea Teen Vogue was already in cahoots with MTV! All in all, we had some exciting times in LA with that cast…from our living room couches!  From the cute clothes, the fun jobs, the sunny shots of LA and the night life, it was always a good time.  When Lauren decided to leave the show, we definitely felt like we were losing a friend.  It just wasn’t quite the same without her.

During the special Lauren talked about how the experiences she had during those years, especially in fashion, prepared her for the life she has now. And let us just say, it is a fabulous life!  Lauren has her own clothing lines, LC Lauren Conrad and Paper Crown, and is an author of two New York Times bestseller series.  What we are most impressed with is an online store she has opened called The Little Market.  It was created to help sell beautiful handmade products of women across the world in order to help them reach a larger number of people and care for their families.  It’s such an amazing way to help give back and help the communities of these women.  We love a woman that knows how to collect a check, but also understands the value of giving back! We are inspired!

The Hills brought us some good times and memories! Cue Adele singing: “When we were young!”  Friends, were you a fan of The Hills?  Did you watch the anniversary special?  Leave us a comment and don’t forget to follow the blog!
